Sliding Puzzle

Picture Sliding Puzzle

Turn any photo into a sliding puzzle, right in your browser.

How to make a sliding puzzle from your photo

  • Press Use your photo, or drop an image onto the puzzle. On a phone you can pick one from your gallery or take a new picture.
  • Pick a board size under the puzzle: 3x3 for a quick game, 4x4 for a real challenge, 5x5 for a long one.
  • Slide the tiles until the picture is whole again. Press New game to shuffle the same picture again, or Use your photo to pick another.

Until you add a photo, the puzzle shows one of ours, a lighthouse at sunset. Your photo is cut to a square from its centre, so keep the part you care about in the middle. There is no account to create and nothing to install.

Your photo stays on your device

Your photo is never uploaded. Your browser cuts it to a square, scales it down and draws the tiles itself, so the picture never reaches our servers or anyone else’s. It isn’t saved either: close or reload the page and it is gone. That makes this a safe place for a photo of your family, your pet or your home.

Which photos make the best puzzles

  • Pick a photo with a clear subject and plenty of colour. Tiles that each look different are much easier to place.
  • Avoid large plain areas, like a clear sky, a white wall or a calm sea. Tiles from those parts all look alike.
  • Keep the subject near the centre, where the square is cut.
  • Bigger boards need busier pictures. A simple photo is fine at 3x3 but gets very hard at 5x5.

Tips for solving a picture puzzle

  • Start with the corners and edges, which are the easiest tiles to recognise.
  • Use the numbers. Each tile can show a small number for its place in the finished picture, so you can solve it like a numbered puzzle. Turn them off for a harder game.
  • Peek at the whole picture whenever you are unsure where a tile belongs.
  • The method for numbered puzzles works here too: see How to Solve a Sliding Puzzle, Step by Step.

Picture levels with stars

Every board-size page has picture levels too, with stars and leaderboards, next to the numbered ones.
